Cost: $32 resident, $36 nonresident or those younger than 55 years of age. Cost varies depending on the number of classes each month.

What is Awareness Through Movement?

Awareness Through Movement is a series of verbally guided, gentle, slow and organized movements typically done on the floor in a group setting. Lessons may also be done sitting or standing. These lessons guide students’ awareness toward sensing their own movement patterns, exploring new ways of moving, and integrating more choice into their movement habits.

No prior experience is necessary. People of all ages and skill level are welcome. Lessons are taught to all levels. Bring your curiosity and wear comfortable clothing. Mats are provided. If you want extra support for your neck or shoulder, feel free to bring a towel.

The Eyes


Explore several key functions of the eyes through movement and imagination - saccades, smooth tracking movements, convergence, and divergence.


This lesson creates a powerful ease and openness through the entire chest and back. Movements of the spine through the chest help to differentiate ribs and vertebra.


This lesson is an exploration of the movements of flexion. This creates length in the front of us and eases the muscular work of the back.

Circling the Heels


By working in various positions and turning the heel or heels out to sides, you begin to cultivate agility in the ankles and lower legs.


This lesson cultivates a twist through the torso coordinating the flexors and extensors. Alternately expanding the chest and abdomen improves the twisting.


Your breath is developed into four parts and coordinated with the rhythmical movements of your hand or fingers. Be ready for a surprise or two!
