    • Introduction

This collection of articles was written by Mark Reese as a series of newspaper columns for Wholistic Living News in the 1980’s, an alternative local San Diego paper no longer in publication. The articles represent Mark’s keen ability and pleasure at relating the Feldenkrais Method® to a wide range of subjects.

Mark Reese, Ph.D. was a certified Feldenkrais Trainer, one of the world's foremost authorities on the Feldenkrais Method. His interdisciplinary background included studies in philosophy, biology, theater and music. Mark earned his M.A. in psychology and a Ph.D. in health sciences. He was a graduate of the first U.S. Feldenkrais training program and studied closely with Moshé Feldenkrais from 1975 - 1984 in San Francisco, Amherst and Tel Aviv.

Mark and I founded the Reese Movement Institute in Encinitas, California. Working together, we trained practitioners in more than 30 Feldenkrais Professional Training Programs in Southern California and internationally. The institute, now known as the Feldenkrais Southern California Movement Institute, continues under my direction, but Mark's influence is still felt every day.

Mark published extensively on the Feldenkrais Method and related health issues, and co-authored with David and Kathe Zemach-Bersin Relaxercise: The Easy New Way to Health and Fitness. He also appeared on numerous television and radio programs. At the time of Mark's passing on June 23, 2006, he was working on a biography of Moshe Feldenkrais. This book is being completed by Cliff Skoog, Mark's long-time friend and editor, along with Mark's widow, Carol Kress, a Feldenkrais Practitioner in Marin County.

I remember Mark’s excitement while he was writing these articles. It reminded him of writing for his high school newspaper. He loved condensing important information into a short format, having a deadline, and reaching a new audience. Every day Mark saw the tremendous benefits people enjoyed from the Feldenkrais Method, and he was dedicated to spreading the word about the Method until the time of his passing. I hope you enjoy reading these articles.

With love and gratitude to Mark and all he contributed to our individual lives and to our community.

      Donna Ray
