A Feldenkrais®
Awareness Through Movement® Class
with Al
Wadleigh, GCFP
- Improve flexibility
- Experience deep
relaxation
- Reduce tension
and pain
- Improve posture,
balance & coordination
- Enhance athletic
performance
- Increase mental
clarity
We begin moving as
babies, comfortable rolling around on the floor, exploring and learning
without explanation or expectation. Later, we learned to sit still in
school, and, now, years later, we may have had a job that required us
to sit or stand for long periods of time. These kind of repeated patterns
limit our repertoire of movements, and we can notice stiffness, pain,
or lack of flexibility and strength. Stiffness and discomfort often lead,
oddly enough, to even more restricted movement to avoid the discomfort.
In these Awareness Through Movement classes, you will be guided
through a series of movements designed to allow your body to remember
how to move more easily through your day. Regain flexibility and improve
balance as you slowly and gently complete each movement. Some people experience
immediate change and improvement. Others experience more subtle changes,
with each subsequent lesson building on the previous ones.
This class will be done on the floor on thick mats. Students will
learn a wide variety of movement in different positions.
New class starts the first Tuesday or each month.
Time: Tuesdays, 10am - 11am
Cost: $24 resident, $29 nonresident or those younger
than 55 years of age.

We
all have seen and remember the disabled senior who cried out “I’ve
fallen and I can’t get up.” It is my belief that if she
had been taking Feldenkrais classes, she wouldn’t have called
for help and she could have gotten up by herself. I say this because of
personal experience. When I began Feldenkrais in June of 2005,
I was literally bound by still muscles and achy bones. Over the months,
both conditions improved and I actually could get up by myself. It wasn’t
an instantaneous cure and still isn’t, but the gains I have made are
truly remarkable. My balance has benefitted, as has my range of motion.
It’s a small miracle when you realize the interconnectedness within
the elements of your body. I recommend Al Wadleigh’s Feldenkrais
classes without reservation.

I have been practicing
Feldenkrais for approximately 2 years with Al and have found great
benefits. I have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis for 19 years. By
using such alternative types of therapy as water exercise, stretch n’
tone classes and Feldenkrais, I have found benefits that keep me
stable. I’ve learned so much about my body and mind through the practice
and positions that Feldenkrais teaches. I would encourage anyone,
any age, to try it. —L. Hodge, Longmont, CO |
