Q:
Why do we need to "recharge the brain"?
A: This is a topic explored in the workshop, but in short: Humans
are remarkably adaptable, and the human brain has tremendous capacity
for learning; however-not without rest, alternation and other "charging"
activities. In other words, "draining" and recharging
is going on all the time. Most human brains are simply not well-adapted
to going nonstop, at any pace. The modern world is particularly
challenging, as there is so much input, and changes occur very rapidly.
Most people do not get enough sleep, nor enough of what it takes
to recharge the brain in a waking state.
Q: How do we recharge the brain?
A: This is the essence of what the workshop is about, both ways
to charge the brain in the short term, and how to gain the ability to
"maintain a fuller charge" over the long term. The main
way the brain is recharged normally is through sleep; but sleep isn't
always as effective as it should be, particularly as people get older.
The brain is also recharged in waking states, but the issues there
are even more complex. Our ultimate goal is to get more refreshing
sleep and find ways of recharging while in a waking state.
Q: What will Brain Recharge Synergy do
for me?
A: This depends in part on your particular situation. Some immediate
benefits you might experience are: Sharper focus, feeling more attuned
to your surroundings, better concentration, feeling extremely well rested
and a greater sense of peace. Longer-term benefits of using the
principles and elements of Brain Recharge Synergy can include improvements
in sleep, energy levels, hearing and stress-management, as well as in
both mental and physical functioning. One might even find improvement
in specific issues such as insomnia, balance problems, tinnitus, dyslexia
or Attention Deficit Disorder, although there are many variables and obviously
such effects cannot be guaranteed.
Q: How long will it last?
A: The short-term effects of one experience are likely to be only
transient. However, it is my hope that what you learn from that
experience, and the information provided in the workshop, will teach you
how you can achieve a more lasting effect, and a mental state which involves
a better balance of charging and discharging states.
Q: What does one do in a workshop?
A: The "Theory" part of the workshop is learning the background
and some of the basis for what you will do. In the "Practice"
part you will sit or lie down comfortably and listen to specially filtered
classical music through a headset and special audio equipment. In
sequence or simultaneously you will also do easy movements that trigger
a charging effect.
Q: What is the Tomatis Effect?
A: The Tomatis Effect is one of the core principles of the Brain
Recharge workshop. It has to do with the frequency curve of an individual's
hearing range, how this affects both hearing and the voice, and how the
hearing curve can be improved. What is particularly striking is
what happens when it is possible to strengthen this curve in the higher
ranges. The so-called Tomatis Effect occurs when the ear (and brain)
open to sounds in very high frequency ranges, and the person experiences
what Tomatis called a "sonic rebirth". It was the observation
of this phenomenon which caused Tomatis to pronounce his most dramatic
and controversial theory: that the ear acts not merely as a way to hear
sound, but also as an organ to charge the brain through sound.
Q: How is the Feldenkrais Method®
used in this workshop?
A: If you are familiar with the Feldenkrais Method, you
will probably recognize some elements in BRS. However, most of the
movement in the workshop, while deeply indebted to Feldenkrais®,
is altered somewhat from the way the method is normally taught. Feldenkrais-influenced
movement may occur before, after or simultaneous with exposure to the
Tomatis-based music tapes. There is also a difference in emphasis
in what is taught in the BRS workshop, from what is taught in a Feldenkrais
workshop, and certain elements of what occurs in Feldenkrais
are highlighted. |
