In
Memoriam of Jack Heggie
Jack Heggie passed away on May 10, 2002, and leaves his father, John,
and a brother and sister. He also left an indelible mark on the Feldenkrais
community and all those whose lives brushed up against his.
"Jack Heggie was a good friend of mine. He introduced me to the Method
in a way that had clarity and structure. Over the years we worked on several
audio projects together and were planning to complete two more the summer
of his death. I am grateful for his guidance, insight, friendship and
discrimination. "
- Al Wadleigh
"When we met, we were beginning our respective careers here in Dallas.
I was a practicing therapist and he a recently graduate of Amherst training
(1983). He was so dedicated to the Feldenkrais Method he usually saw fifty
clients a week. I asked him why he worked so hard. He said, 'The hands
that start the work on Monday are not as intelligent as the hands that
finish the work on Friday. They know much more.'
I knew Jack to be not only an outstanding thinker and contributor but
also to be caring and generous. He was always happy to share what he knew
and his concern for others was deeply felt. In a recent conversation with
him we talked about how we wish to be remembered. Jack said, 'I want people
to remember only the good things about me, the things they liked, and
the contributions I made to their lives.'
May God bless you Jack and good-bye till we meet again."
- Ross Stewart
"Anyone who visited the Amherst training knew Jack. He sat right
up front and Moshe often interacted with him. Moshe call him 'Texas,'
and perhaps resonated with Jack, the engineer. Jack was fascinated with
Moshe's Method and focused himself on it and in it.
Jack was part of the Feldenkrais Journal editorial board since its inception
and we worked on it for almost 15 years. Jack's reading of the articles
was not predictable, he was irreverent, opinionated, and to the point.
Sometime last year when Jack had sent in a particularly pointed comment
about one of the articles, he said at the end of the always brief email:
I guess I'm back inform. Oh, Jack, I wish you'd stayed in form."
- Elizabeth Beringer
"I'm sorry. Jack devoted his life to what Ruthy Alon called "Moshedo,"
the way of Moshe, and Jack was a marvelous follower, student, and researcher
of Moshe's art. He never stopped expanding his knowledge and exploration
of the Method. His books: "Running with the Whole Body," "Skiing
with the Whole Body," and his major explorations into the use of
vision, offer profound insights into how this remarkable world of proprioception
can be expanded to serve in so many different realms. Jack bought my practice
in Boulder many years ago and I knew him as a good friend and colleague
and I will miss him deeply. Vaya con Dios, Amigo."
