John Andrews of Anderson suffered whiplash, muscle tears in his hip and lower back, and a sprained elbow from a car accident that changed his previously active life.

"I went from being very active to being unable to function," he explained.

Andrews, the owner of John Andrews' Body Shop in Anderson, was an avid water-skier who also liked kayaking, motorcycling, mountain biking and hiking. His accident rendered him unable to work or do any of the activities he enjoyed.

To regain mobility, he went to physical therapist Linda Johnson and her aide, Bob McGrath. The owners of Movement Matters Physical Therapy Clinic in Redding, McGrath and Johnson, are Feldenkrais practitioners, each with more than 15 years of experience.

Johnson explained that, in response to pain, people adjust their movements and posture. While they're usually unaware of these adjustments, the result is usually more pain and restricted movement. The Feldenkrais Method is a non-invasive technique that instructs the client in changing movement patterns and making them more efficient.
